On Tuesday 8 February 2022, the world celebrated Safer Internet Day (SID) with activities taking place around the world. With the theme of “Together for a better internet”, the main focus was a safer, fairer and better internet for all, especially young people.
George was quite active in the celebrations that took place in Malta.
Firstly, George, together with another Youth Ambassador interviewed Hon Dr.Micheal Flazon, the Maltese Minister for Social Justice and Solidarity (Il-Ministru għas-Solidarjeta’ u l-Ġustizzja Soċjali, il-Familja u d-Drittijiet tat-Tfal). During the interview, online threats and online safety were discussed. Hon Dr.Micheal Falzon, also highlighted what his Ministry is doing to help in achieving a safer internet, and discussed on how topics like this should be handled on both a National and a European scale.
Together with BeSmartOnline! (Maltese Safer Internet Center) George also helped with the creation of a video to be published on Safer Internet Day. This video got the opinions of adults who work in the field of Youth and Online Safety, and of BiK Youth Ambassadors. These opinons were then shown shown one after the other, hightlighting the differences and similarities between teenagers and professionals. The setup and post-production of the video were fully done by George themselves.
