Together with other Junior College students, George was given the opportunity to participate in the 8th Euroscola session of 2024, held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The theme of the Euroscola session George and their classmates attended was gender equality. In the first part of the session, Vice President of the European Parliament Dimitrios Papadimoulis and Administrator of the FEMM Committee Henry Wasung answered questions on themes relating to and apart of gender equality. After answering the questions asked by the participants, the participants had a small break. In the second part of the Euroscola session, they simulated the role of Members of the European Parliament. In this session, the participants were given a chance to discuss the Gender Equality topic based on the ‘political groupings’ they were assigned to. After the discussions concluded, the participants voted on amendments and the final proposal as part of the simulation. At the end of the session, the Anthem of the EU was played and a discussion about the upcoming European Elections was held.
George and the rest of the students deeply appreciated the experience and the time spent in the Hemicycle of the European Parliament. It gave them a unique opportunity to learn more about how the European Parliament functions internally. Apart from attending the Euroscola session, the Junior College students visited Petit France, the Strasbourg Museum of Modern Arts, and the Strasbourg Notre Dame.
